Stainless Steel versus Teflon Cookware

In the last year, news has surfaced that Teflon cookware might be toxic under the right conditions, and more people have since went back to their old stainless steel pots and pans.  Cooking on Teflon isn’t dangerous, what is dangerous is if the Teflon coating should chip off and contaminate the food.  It’s when people ingest these miniscule pieces of Teflon that problems can arise.  Despite stainless steel cookware not having the coveted non-stick surface, it’s much safer, and having to scrub a little harder is definitely worth your health.

Stainless steel and its less well refined cast iron counterpart have been used for centuries as safe cookware, and show no sign of being replaced in the near future despite not offering a non-stick surface.  Some stainless steel and cast iron pans are so sturdy they can be handed down for generations.

Organizing Kitchen Utensils

Organizing Kitchen Utensils

Having an unorganized kitchen not only makes for a stressful cooking environment, but can also lead to weight gain!  That’s right, I said weight gain.  It might seem like a ridiculous claim, but this is possible because you’re more liable to make bad decisions like fast food if you associate cooking with stress, discomfort, and difficulty.  Having an organized kitchen will help you to make better decisions about food.  You should consider equipment like hanging pot racks, which are aesthetically pleasing and also allow you to have pots and pans with easy access.  You might also think about a lazy susan if your cupboards are cluttered.  Make sure you have the kitchen utensils necessary for cooking as well; standard equipment like spatulas, peelers, can openers, and wooden spoons.

Having an organized and stocked food cabinet also helps; you’re more likely to make good decisions at the store about food than you are right after work when you’re starving.
